How to design and facilitate Nature-based and Nature-inspired learning

Nature as Teacher

On this highly experiential course you'll personally experience the power of Nature as teacher through your own learning journey, as well as developing the knowledge, confidence and skills to design and facilitate your own Nature-based and Nature-inspired courses and workshops.

​The course content includes:

 

Nature as Teacher

  • Discover how and why Nature has such transformational power as a teacher 

  • Deepen your understanding of the different ways in which we can learn in, with and from Nature

  • Explore the differences between Nature-based and Nature-inspired learning

Facilitation tools, skills and techniques

  • Experience a range of practical techniques, tools, activities and exercises for Nature-based and Nature-inspired learning

  • Identify ways to adapt and apply these to your own facilitation work

  • Learn how look to Nature for ideas and inspiration when designing courses and workshops

Supporting learners to learn in, with and from Nature

  • Discover how the principles of rewilding land are also applicable when helping people to learn, develop and grow

  • Identify the dos and don'ts of Nature-based facilitation

  • Learn how to generate an environment that makes people feel safe and supported so that they can experience transformational learning journeys\
     

There is an expectation that participants already have some experience and skills in teaching, training, coaching, or facilitation and therefore already understand how people learn and the key principles of facilitating 

Who is it for?

This programme is for trainers, coaches, teachers and other facilitators of learning who want to incorporate nature-based or nature-inspired approaches in their work.  This includes...

  • Experienced facilitators who want to enhance their offering by incorporating Nature into their work.
     

  • Teachers who would like Nature to become their teaching assistant.
     

  • Coaches and trainers who want to help individuals, teams, or organisations to develop and grow through engaging on a deeper level with the Nature inside and around them.
     

  • Anyone who supports others to learn and grow and who wants to build their confidence or gain new ideas and inspiration to help others to learn in, with and from Nature.

Where, when and how?

VENUE:  High Slock Cottage, Dumfries and Galloway, DG9 9HQ

In this remote and peaceful area surrounded by coastline, you'll be able to experience how working in different environments and habitats impacts on how we see things and how we feel, and what difference this makes to learning.  We'll spend time indoors as well as outdoors. 

DATES:

Workshop 1 (online): Introduction to Nature-based and Nature-inspired learning.  Preparation for F2F course

In-person training:  2 days

Workshop 2 online: Turning learning into action - follow-up support

COST:  

The programme fee includes...

  • 2 online workshops

  • 2 full days of in-person training​

  • Breakfast, lunch and evening meal on day 1 and breakfast and lunch on day two

  • A pack of inspiring materials to help you on your way

  • Free attendance at Nature Practitioner Network events in 2025

Self-funding individuals:  £550

Charities, small companies (<20 staff) and public sector: £650

ACCOMMODATION:

Accommodation is not included in the cost of the programme, and you can arrange your own accommodation if you wish. Alternatively, we can offer the following options:

Pitch your own tent or park your own camper van on site for free

Stay in a bell tent on site for ??

Stay in one of our two guest rooms at High Slock Cottage for £20/night

Stay in a room at our neighbour's holiday let (20 mins walk or 5 mins drive away) for £25/night
